The development team Uncut Jeremy, Ethan, Mark, and Sam (JEMS) Studio was contracted by the Tippecanoe Arts Federation (TAF) to redesign and improve upon the webpage centered on the Wabash Walls Art Initiative (WWAI). The WWAI is a program under TAF that has the expressed purpose of facilitating the creation of public murals and art pieces in the West Lafayette community and beyond.

Uncut JEMS members began this project with in-depth research on the Google Maps API documentation under the Maps JavaScript API to learn the Direction services, Distance Matrix Services, add a Google Map with a Maker, Marker Clustering, and Use embedded JSON Style declarations for the map. These were the main research topics to bring the functionalities for the website. As Uncut JEMS implemented the functions there were some bugs that quickly built up from the implementation.
The interactive map page is the centerpiece of the new Wabash Walls website. The main portion of the map page has an interactive map. The map is populated with all the murals that are listed in the system under the WWAI. Users are also able to filter the map and add preferences to which murals are shown. When users click on the mural location a pop up will appear, it has the name of the mural, the artist, an option to add to the user’s tour, as well as a link to the specific mural page. Once murals are added to the user’s tour, the user has the option to press a button to create it. This makes a loop that acts as a route between the murals chosen. Once the route is made the user then can open the route in the Google Maps application on their phone.
The Wabash Walls website redesign will allow TAF to further community exploration of the WWAI. With this new website, users will now be able to explore all the murals under the initiative and find murals that may have been harder to locate before. Increased exposure will allow the community to be more engaged with art. This new technology will also allow users to seamlessly self-guide a tour to explore the many murals open in the area. The website brings an intriguing experience that is highly customizable for each individual user to utilize.
Because of the project's tight deadline, regrettably, we were unable to improve its user-friendliness.
